Got Hit Above Eyelid, Black Color Under The Bump Up To Nose. Applying Ice. Anything To Worry?
my grandpa slipped on a curb and fell and hit just above the eyelid creating a huge golf size bump right above it. He iced it for a good amount of time, but when he woke up this morning his whole eye is black under the bump and it goes down about half way up his nose. Is it something serious? and he's been icing it a lot is that bad to ice too much?
Hello, As from the history you have provided here, your grandpa has developed black eye because of collection of blood in the layers of the eye lids because of injury.
Black eye by itself is non serious and it resolves by itself over a period of 3-4 weeks and may not require treatment. Cold compress which you are doing will provide symptomatic relief and help in early resolution. But some other serious injuries involving the eyes which are associated with black eye like injuries to the eye ball, fractures involving the orbit needs to ruled out. Hence I advice you to consult eye doctor for examination to rule out the above mentioned conditions. Thank you
