Got Hit Near A Large Vein/artery And Having Pain In Inner Left Thigh. What To Do?
Hello. A few weeks ago I was playing soccer with some friends and took a good kick to the shin that swelled up fairly quickly. I had seen a nurse the same day and she said to watch for red lines going up the leg and calf craps because the kick hit near a large vein/artery. Everything was healing nicely until few days ago when I noticed that there was some pain not unlike a pulled muscle in my inner left thigh. It is almost bruise-like in pain when I press on it and the discomfort has spread to my knee. Any ideas?
Thanks for the query. Although rare, since the mechanism of trauma by your description involved the vicinity of a great vessel, a clot in the leg could give rise to such non-specific symptoms, and a venous ultrasound would be the best way to rule it out. If it is negative, then it is likely just extension of the soft tissue injury.
Always wear your shinguards! I personally refuse to play if I forget them at home!
Hope that helps, wish you the best,
