Had D Dimer Test Slightly Elevated. Had Angina Episode But No Heart Attack. Suggestion?

Recently had a d dimer test slightly elevated 550 +_ and 55 could perimenopause eleveate this level and how often are false readings found. I had a possible angina episode but no heart attack and all other blood levels cholesterol was good. Could just being stressed and afraid of the incidence elevate it a little bit, 2 tests showed exactily the same level. COuld this just be my high normal?

Hi,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic,
D Dimer test is for thrombosis and it is fibrin degradation product it needs clinical and other test correlation.
Chest pain needs evaluation by ECG and Stress test.
This test in isolation it is difficult to say if it is related to Heart or not.
D Dimer may be falsely high in following condition: liver disease, high rheumatoid factor, inflammation, malignancy, trauma, pregnancy, recent surgery .
Please consult Physician and proper examination and investigation will help to know exact cause.
Hope this helps.
Take care.
Good Luck

Thanks for your question

D Dimers are very non-specific, mild elevation of it can occur in a lot of disease entities. But a very high levels may suggest pulmonary embolism or venous thromboembolism, Deep vein thrombosis (If only superimposed by symptoms and suggestive finding on examination).

D Dimers do not have any role in Heart Attack or Angina, therefore, if you have swelling in legs and you get short of breath all the time or on mild exertion only then you need to worry about D dimers. Otherwise concentrate on your medications and reducing risk factor and lifestyle changes for your Angina

Hope that answers your question
