Had A Blowout Fracture. Swelling In Eye, Bruising, Swelling, Massive Lump. What Can I Do?
Hi. Two and a bit weeks ago I fell 15foot and landed on my face. I've got a blowout fracture of the orbit- the bit under my eye is broken. The swelling of the eye has gone down and the bruising is gone- all apart from the bloody bit in my eye. They say I'll need an operation though, because a muscle in my eye is trapped in the fracture and causing double vision. The problem, though, is that my eyebrow bone is incredibly swollen. It's a massive lump, and I'm not really sure why? Or what I should do.
Hello, An orbital blowout fracture is a fracture or break in the small bones that make up your eye. The orbit, or eye socket, is the cavity of the skull that holds the eye. While the bones around the eye are quite strong, the bones that make up the orbital floor are fairly thin.
Depending on the damage, most people who suffer an orbital blowout do require surgery. You are prescribed general antibiotics to prevent infection. You are instructed not to blow your nose for several weeks, as doing so can cause additional swelling, injury and possibly air to enter the tissue. Since you are having a trapped muscle in the fracture resulting in double Vision, you have to go for surgery to dis engage the trapped muscle and restore your double vision. You must abide by the advice of your maxilofacial surgeon and surgery is the best and only option. Thanks
