Had A Fever, Bruise On Abdomen Gets Darker With A Hard White Center. Treatment?
My 22 month old son had a fever all weekend, Fr -Monday (as high as 104 and as low as 100.7) until midday Monday when it went away. I also noticed a bruise on his abdomen which I thought nothing of until it got darker yesterday and today has a hard white center. Any thoughts on if the fever and bruise are related and if I should be concerned?
I am so sorry to hear about this fever and bruise in your son. I am however happy that he has been feeling a lot better.
Most fevers in children is caused by viruses. It usually requires no antibiotics but mere measures to control the fever and any associated symptoms. The fact that the fever has suspected reinforces this thought.
A bruise generally causes an inflammatory reaction which manifest with fever as one of the signs. if the bruise is big enough, then it could explain this but I wouldn't think the fever was caused by the bruise if it is small.
I am not particularly concerned about this colour change because the initial description makes it more likely to have been a subcutaneous bleed that is being reabsorbed. the color changes are many and varied and white not uncommon.
You shouldn't be concerned at this time unless something new comes up. I wish your son well and hope you find this response helpful. Thanks for using our services and feel free to request for more information if need be. Thanks. Dr. Ditah, MD
