Hi,
Thank you for posting your query on healthcaremagic,
B-HCG is some what crude marker of pregnancy, its level increases up to 6 to 10 weeks of pregnancy then gradually decline. Although its commonly accepted that B-HCG should double every 48 hrly, there are some adjustments for time of doubling with levels of B-HCG like if B-HCG level is under 1,200 mIU/ml doubling time would be between 30 and 72 Hours, if B-HCG level is between 1200-6000 mIU/ml doubling time would be between 72 and 96 Hours and if B-HCG levels are over 6,000 mIU/ml doubling time would be over 96 Hours. As with your case, your first reading was 1248 mIU/ml which may not be doubled within 48 hrs but may take up to 96 hrs. So, what I suggest is recheck B-HCG after 96 hrs to find whether it is doubled or not.
One more thing I want to emphasize is that in general, after 6-7 weeks of the pregnancy the best indication of a healthy pregnancy is a good fetal heartbeat. B-HCG levels are not very helpful to test for the viability of the pregnancy if the hCG level is well over 6,000 and/or after 6-7 weeks of the pregnancy. Instead, to test the health of the pregnancy at that time, a USG should be done to confirm the presence of a fetal heart beat. Once a fetal heart beat is seen, it is not recommended nor needed to check the pregnancy viability with B-HCG levels anymore.
Unfortunately, if you abort again, then there are many causes (listed below) for
miscarriage during this time which can be ruled out and some of them are treatable and preventable .
-chromosomal abnormalities
-
Thrombosis in decidual vessels leading to impairment in blood supply and subsequent
fetal death is another mechanism believed to be involved in
spontaneous abortion.
-Less common causes are maternal factors, including infections (
Bacterial vaginosis,
Listeria monocytogenes infection,
toxoplasmosis etc.) maternal factors or illness (high caffeine / nicotine/ alcohol consumption, obesity, PCOS etc. ) and intrauterine anatomic abnormalities.
-In some cases, however, the exact cause remains unknown.
As increased psychological stress also increases chances of abortion, you should stop worrying for a favorable outcome :)
Hope this will help you,
