Had An Episode Of Acute Pancreatitis. USG Said Heterogeneous Pancreas. What Are They?

I 24 year old female had an episode of acute pancreatitis last year .Amilase n lipase were 4 times after medications it came back to normal . I am still not allowed to have wheat . Last year had undergone endosonography n result were birth anomaly in pancreatic duct . I still get pain sometimes when I strain myself . Recently I underwent USG and the results are heterogeneous pancreas . Can you please guide me as what does heterogeneous pancreas mean ? does it mean that the inflammation is still there ? kindly guide me through this .Thankyou.

Hi,
Heterogenous means different appearances by ultrasound. It is a commonly seen entity in chronic pancreatitis patients. It speaks little about inflammation. You need to be careful with the diet, taking enzyme supplements regularly and should avoid alcohol and certain offending drugs. As the disease is a chronic one, careful followup with a gastroenterologist is mandatory to avoid chronic pain and secondary diabetes.
