Had An Ischial Tuberosity Avulsion While Running Sprints. Time To Recover?

My son had an ischial tuberosity avulsion fx 3 years ago while running sprints. Two years of rehab and waiting for it to get better with no results. November 2011 had surgery to reattach hamstring to hip. Four screws were placed, took 2 hours to unwrap sciatic nerve from scar tissue. Began football in July, doing pretty well then began to have stabbing pain at injury site, went for CT scan and found that bone has resorbed around screws, screw were protruding. Going back in two week to remove screws. How much time for recovery? How painful will this be? Crutches for a while? Do you think this will resolve his pain issue? Please advise, he is 16.
