Had An Ultrasound. No Heartbeat, Advised D&C. Ultrasound Shows Growth Is Less. Immediate D&C?
I had an ultrasound yesterday and the doctor said he could not see a heartbeat and immediately informed us that we should have a d&c. He stated we were 9 weeks preganant yet the ultrasound only shows 7w6d. Our first ultrasound was on June 5th and he had a hard time seeing a heartbeat so we went on a better u/s machine in another area of the hospital and could find a heartbeat. Would you recommend a d&c right away or wait to get another ultrasound? We first found out we were pregnant on May 18th via hgc levels.
Hello, You are 9 weeks pregnant. You don't have any symptoms of miscarriage. As per USG the fetal size is only 7weeks and 6 days and not able to sense the heart beat. As you don't have the symptoms of miscarriage, you can do USG in a better Scan Centre and decide (immediately - even though you can wait). If you have symptoms of miscarriage in the early weeks, the dead fetus will come out on its own or you have to do D&C immediately as it may develop toxins inside the uterus which is very dangerous to the mother. Best wishes

Had An Ultrasound. No Heartbeat, Advised D&C. Ultrasound Shows Growth Is Less. Immediate D&C?
Hi, Thanks for asking such an important question. The difference in dates between 7w6d and 9 weeks is acceptable. The fact that the second ultrasound shows heart beat confirms a live fetus. I suggest you go to an experienced gynecologist and continue your pregnancy. Best wishes. Dr A. Rao Kavoor
