Had Aortic Valve Replacement, Applied Agent Orange Disability, Turned Down Telling Birth Defect. Why Did Not Show Before?

I had an aortic valve replaced 2 yrs ago , then after that a veteran told me I should apply for agent orange disability. I did & now the va turned my claim down for the reason that I was born with a bad valve. I never had any heart problems growing up then I was drafted & joined the USMC. My question is if I had a bad valve then why did it not show up before now?

Hi friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic

Inherited disorders do not always manifest at birth / nor easily detectable at infancy
It may take several years... the progression is highly variable ...
They could also be influenced by environment...
You have not stated your age, gender, personal habits, family history or co-morbidities
The aortic valve has 3 cusps / the common deviation will be 2 - bicuspid aortic valve / it comes to notice after 3 or 4 decades..

Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck
