Had Heart Attack, Have 3 Stents, On Effient, Having Bad Cough. What Could Be The Cause?

I had a heart attack 4 months ago and now have 3 stents. Dr put me on Effient and I am having really bad coughing up blood and large bruising spots all over my hands and arms and head. I called my Dr. and he said I have to stay on this for 1 year. I don t know what to do....just cough and cough and cough.

Sorry to hear that. There are two important things to know hear. As you said you had a heart attack and stent put in afterwards. As per my understanding you are on two drugs: Effient and Aspirin which are blood thinning pills which are very important to keep your stent open . As your Cardiologist has rightly suggested you need to continue with both of them for 12 months after which Effient can be/will be stoped. I know I sound unhelpful to you.
But equally important to know why you are having cough . Some time its due to one of Heart medicine ( RAMIPRIL or similar) which is usually given to some body who had a heart attack. I think you are on it and your Doctor should try replacing it , and see whether it works or not.
You should have a Chest X Ray done and Complete blood count to see if your platelets are normal or not.
you must be assessed for bleeding risk . So please revisit your doctor and get the things sorted out.
