Had Heart Attack, Put On Lisinopril For High BP. Had Allergic Reaction, Swelling On Face. Suggest Alternative

My brother had a heart attack about 3 months ago and was put on Lisinopril for his high blood pressure. He had an allergic reaction to it over the weekend, swelling of the face, and had to spend 2 days in the hospital. Obviously he is no longer taking the lisinopril. What is an alternative medication, that would provide the same benefits to him? He can not get in to his cardiologist for a few more days and is freaking out about not being on the pills. He is afraid there is not another pill he can take. Told him there must be something.

Hi friend,
Welcome to Health Care Magic

The drug is used in blood pressure / helps remodeling of the recovering myocardium.
It is not an emergency medicine...he should wait till he sees his doctor.
He can do without the medicine....
There are alternatives with similar function – like ARB (angiotensin Receptor Blocker) / but with a history of allergy, they should be taken only under strict medical supervision and imperative need. It is better to be safe than be sorry!

The treating doctor alone can suggest further based on his assessment of the situation.

Take care
Wishing speedy recovery
God bless
Good luck

Hi,
welcome to HCM,

So its clear that you have been allergic to Lisinopril. Dont worry there are other alternative medications to the Lisinopril- like beta-blockers and calcium channel blockers to control your B.P.

I suggest you to consult your cardiologist and get the correct medication which fits for you .
Regards,
Dr.SIVAYOGI
