Had Hip Broken. Had Surgery. Advised For Re-surgery With Screw And Plate. Suggest?
I am 40 year old and my hip is borken in July.13. Withing 24 hrs surgey done with 3 screw but till date the status in non-union. I consult to Apolo Hospital and they has advice me for re-surgery. As per doctor blood circulation is intact and femor is in normal condition. Dr. advice for surgey with Screw and Plate. I consult some other doctor and some dr. dvice for Partial replacement and some for full replacement. Please suggest.
Generally, in younger age groups (like you) with fracture neck of femur, Internal fixation methods are preferred primarily in the form of screws and plates. If these methods fail to produce a bony union, then only either partial replacement or total hip replacement is indicated.
So, if the screws have resulted in nonunion, there is no harm in attempting to redo surgery with plate and screw fixation (along with valgus osteotomy) which may result in fracture union. If everything else fails, there is always an option either for hemiarthroplasty or THR.
Hello, Welcome to Healthcaremagic. I had gone through your query and understand your concern.
As blood circulation is good and femur is in good condition, go for screw and plate fixation. Because it is the usual treatment for non union. Immobilization is very essential in surgery for non union.
In case of Non union, the usual time for union will be more than normal first union of fracture.
Hope this helps. Please reply for follow up queries. Take care. Wishing you good health.
