Had Laproscopy And Cystoscopy Done. Removed Adhesion. Pain In Left Shoulder Blade. Related?
Hi, I had a laparoscopy and cystoscopy done under general anaesthesitic two weeks ago. He removed lots of adhesions. Then yesterday I have developed terrible shooting pains in my left shoulder blade which go through to my left breast. I know u can get pain from gas used but thought it only lasts a few days. Could this still be connected???
Hi thanks for your question. Yes you are right gas (co2) introduced into the abdomen to distend the abdomen gets collected under diaphragm and caused shoulder pain. This pain lasts only for 24 hours as co2 is highly diffusible gas completely gets absorbed from peritoneal cavity with in 24 hours. So this pain is not related to laparoscopic surgery. One important point in history you have not mentioned is your age. Most probably this pain could be due to inflammatory process in shoulder joint. Acid peptic disease could also be a possibility. The third possibility could be angina that is pain arising from heart due to decrease oxygen supply to heart. Hope this answers your question.
