Had Partial Hysterectomy, Have Depression And Mood Swings. Will Hysterectomy Cause Hormonal Imbalance?
I am wondering how much blood on average is lost during a partial hysterectomy . I am also wondering if it is possible to develop a hormonal imbalance after a partial hysterectomy, even if the ovaries are left. I had mine in later September, and since then I have suffered some uncomfortable after effects and am struggling with depression and wild mood swings.
As per your history, hormonal imbalances can occur which might have caused the mood swings and depressive symptoms. I advise you to consult your gynaecologist for adequate hormonal therapy. Along with that, you can also consult psychiatrist for short term treatment of your symptoms if these are bothering you much.
Hello........
Thanks for your query. Hysterectomy is associated with change in hormonal milieu in the body with fall in estrogen levels. The female reproductive hormones have been linked to modulation of mood and irritability. I would suggest you to consider an obstetric consultation to consider hormone replacement therapy. If the above is not feasible, a psychiatric consultation may be beneficial to you considering the armamentarium of medication at our disposal to assist you in these symptoms in addition to psychotherapy.
