Had Partial Hysterectomy, Took Out Uterus. What Could Be Reason Of Bleeding And Cramping?
I had a partial hysterectomy, they took out my uterus but kept in my ovaries and cervix. This was done in 2004. For almost ten years now, I still get PMS and a light period every month at the same time. I know the PMS if from the ovaries but why the cramping and bleeding for 5 days a month?
The hysterectomy was partial. That has two meanings: 1. only the cervix was left behind 2. some part of uterus : lower part was left behind.
In the second scenario, women continue to have a light period from the remaining uterus. Just check with the doctor that performed the surgery regarding what was exactly done. You may also find this in your discharge summary.
Also an ultrasound and a gynec examination by a doctor will help confirm the findings and determine if there is any other cause [ unlikely considering the history].
So do not worry. This is not unusual. Just check the old records and you will know.
