Had Routine General Teeth Cleaning. Gums Bleeding, Painful, Head Feels Heavy. What Should I Do?
Hi. I went to get a routine general cleaning done with a new dentist that I ve never been to before. Instead of a routine cleaning, I think he did something called deep cleaning because it was abnormally excruciatingly painful and there was quite a bit of bleeding . (he did it with a sonic / electric pick machine). It s been 24 hours since, my gums and teeth are pulsating and in some pain, and my head feels very heavy. Is this normal or is this an infection? What should I do?
hello & welcome
if the pain is moderate or of mild type than there is no need to worry, because after deep cleaning also known as curettage pain may occur, as in this procedure infected periodontal pocket linings are scrapped.
just take a painkiller ibuprofen 400mg SOS, and go for warm saline rinses three times a day surely you will get relief.
take care
Hello there...it is absolutely normal....your doctor would have removed the granulation tissue inside your gums...that is the result of bleeding....when you have excessive deposits under the gum line, one has to perform deep scaling to remove them...excessive deposits would result in gum swelling that results in bleeding... Scaling (cleaning of teeth) is usually done with electronic scalers...that would hasten the cleaning process and also makes the job simpler...apart from it you would also have slight tingling sensation of your gums and little sensitivity over your teeth also...Dont worry it would come down in the nest 1-2 days...
hello you will be glad to know that this is all normal when a dentist does cleaning he removes the infected tissue which normally bleeds and also painful. i think he must have prescribed you some medicines. take them they will help you and if not then you can start with doxycicline 100mg first day 12 hourly and then once a day for one week along with metronidazole 3400mg every 8 hourly and also ibuprofen 400mg every 12 hourly. also do warm saline rinses 3-4 times daily............... take care hope it helps
hi... thanks for the query... don't worry... its absolutely normal... symptoms will subside after normal healing of tissues... till then - avoid chilled and hot drinks.. - do warm saline rinses... - you can also use chlorhexidine gel to massage over your gums... this will enhance healing... - use soft tooth brushes and brush according to the technic told by your dentist... take care...
hello dont worry its normal when your gingiva has great amounts of debris and calculus ,the dentist has to go for a deep curretage and because of granulation tissue bleeding continues for 1-2 days what you should do is that follow his prescription and do a lot of luke warm saline rinses.by lot of i mean atleast 6-8 times daily .that would relieve you tremendously plus you can apply some gel (probably provided by your dentist )i.e. gum paint after every rinse. that will relieve your pain hope this helps

Hello,
Thanks for writing to us.
Do not worry at all, it is normal.
deep cleaning is done to remove the calculus below your gums.
ultrasonic scaling is better than hand scaling as it has vibrating tip.
pulsating and pain will subside in 2-3 days.
meanwhile avoid consuming very hot/ cold things.
gargle with luke warm water.
Hope this helps you.
Wishing you good health...
Regards.
hello thank you for writing in hcm do not worry , its normal to have moderate pain after curettage (deep cleaning). to remove infected granulation tissue , deep cleaning was performed. take painkillers sos do warm saline rinses maintain good oral hygiene you can take metronidazole tablets as prescribed by dentist it will subside within 2 , 3 days. if any doubt , write us back take care regards
Mild to moderate pain usually occurs due to deep scaling and polishing. There will be sensitivity to hot and cold stuffs and the symptoms will subside after 2-3 days. I would suggest you to pain killer like ibuprofen twice daily. Take lukewarm saline and antiseptic mouthwash rinses. Avoid eating of hot and clod stuffs for some days.
Hope this helps out,
Regards...
