Had Tonsilectomy. Bleeding At Night In The Area Where The Tonsils Were, Black Stools. Advice

Hi, I've just had a tonsilectomy 8 days ago. Today the scabs are falling off, and the area where the tonsils used to be keep bleeding during the night and heal in the morning. I had to swallow the blood while sleeping at night. I have gone to my doctor and he said that I should not worry about the bleeding, as it means I'm healing. Today, I had a bowel movement and my stool is black. Could it be due to the fact that I swallow the blood at night or could it be any other reason? What should I do?

Hello, Welcome to Health care magic! Swallowed blood can definitely cause black stools. As long as the bleeding is not heavy or prolonged, you need not worry about it much! Black stools can occur due to either bleeding from anywhere in the digestive system which includes the mouth and throat, or iron medications. If you are not having any abdominal pain or colic, or previous history of gastritis, vomiting or loss of appetite, there must be less to worry about the cause. Take care!
