Had Two Separate Skin Abrasions, Spreads. One Has Healed And Has Fresh New Pink Skin

My 14 year old son recently had two seperate skin abrasions. Both became infected looking and seem to spread. these abrasions were just typical scrapes on the road or sidewalk while playing ball. He is otherwise healthy and his hygiene is good. Any thoughts as to why these typical scrapes seemed to become more like his skin being eaten away? One has healed and has fresh new pink skin, the other is in the healing process now.
