Hardened Bruise, Had Accident. Any Ideas?

Hi Dr. Grief,
I was recently in a car accident (on May 2) and the impact caused the seatbelt to tighten and cause a large bruise across my right side. An extensive area around the edge of the bruise is beginning to harden. I do have a follow-up appointment with my primary doctor tomorrow, but I was wondering what might be causing the bruise to harden? I have never experienced this before.

Hi,
Thanks for writing to us.
You seem to have developed haematoma due to blunt trauma. It is a collection of blood due to ruptured blood vessel and can cause swelling, induration or hardness and pain. Cold ice compresses and oral analgesics usually help. It is recommended that you meet your doctor to get the diagnosis confirmed and extent of injury evaluated.
Take care
