Has CHF, Having Shortness Of Breath. Oxygen Saturation 86%. Any Danger Having Home Oxygen?
My 90 year old father has CHF.recently dischaged from a short 3 day stay in hospital. He was admitted for shortness of breath...especially with exertion.
He feels ok now ...little week .His oxygen saturations on admission were 86%
While in hospital on 3 lpm they reamined at 88 to 90 %
Now he is home...discharged with no oxygen -his oxygen saturations are 86 to 88 %
Is therer a danger of him having home oxygen ?
Hello, Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum. There is no danger for oxygen to a patient at home . Certain precautions should be taken as, Oxygen level for arterial saturation is 97 plus minus 2 ( 95-99). Check up regular supply of oxygen ( flow) . Sudden ( very fast ) increase of oxygen supply may be a cause of death . If saturation (99 % ) stop and whenever necessary starts. Good luck. Dr. HET
