Has Abnormal Uric Acid Level, Have Crystals In Urine, Experiencing Foot Pain, Chest Pain. What Is The Reason?

My son that is 11years old has a uric acid level of 8.0 he has been experiencing foot pain and now chest pains. The urin sample shows many crystals and amber and hazzy. I knew something was wrong since he was little. But now it is worse. I really think it is caused from some other kind of condition. Especially with chest pain. What could be causing these symptoms in such a young child. Also the doctor he was seeing stated that his white blood count was a little low.

Hello and welcome to HCM.

Thank you for your query.

Your sons uric acid levels are indeed high for a 11-year-old. I would recommend a strict change in diet, before initiating any medications to control this. High uric acid levels can cause the pain in the foot that he has been experiencing.

Although there is no direct link with the chest pain that he has been experiencing, as high uric acids do not cause chest pain. But there is a possibility for gout (condition caused due to high uric acid levels) to affect unusual sites like the ribs or its joints. I would thus advise a more elaborate examination of the chest wall, starting with an x-ray and a physical examination of your son.

I hope I have succeeded in providing the information you were looking for. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications at: http://doctor.healthcaremagic.com/doctors/dr-shoaib-khan/64581 . I would gladly help you.

Best wishes.
