Has Impetigo, Sticky And Weepy Eyes. What Is Going On?

My five year old daughter is on antibiotics for impetigo in and around her nose. My 2 year old daughter's eyes have become sticky and weepy today, do you think this is related? My 2yr old seems to get sticky eyes fairly frequently (every 3mths approx.). I have previously been told by my doctor that it will clear up on it's own, but it always lasts for about a month. Should i take her back to see my GP again? Many thanks, Jo.

Hello

It appears that your daughter is suffering from allergic conjunctivitis and due to inadequate treatment she gets recurrent secondary infection leading to repeated attacks of the problem. You should take care of the hygiene of her eyes by cleaning them with clean warm water 3 times a day and after cleaning use some combination of steroid and anti-biotic eye drops.

Depending upon the response, you will have to taper the dose of eye drops. If you are using same towel or handkerchief etc for both children, it may also be related to Impetigo.

Regards
