Have Alopecia Universalis. Can Be Cured With Blood Transfusions? Can Blood Be Donated?
Hi doc My father has alopecia universalist since being 9 years old and I was wondering if it can be cured by him getting many transfusions of his same blood type from people who don t suffer from the condition as I thought the immunity system from the transfused blood won t attack the follicles. also I d like to ask, if he donates blood can his blood cause the disease to the receiver? Alopecia universalis is an autoimmune condition where a person loses most of his body hair. Blood transfusion would not treat the condition. Blood donation is a noble gesture, please let your father know that his donated blood in no way would induce alopecia in someone else. Except for the cosmetic repurcussions, a patient of alopecia is healthy.

As per your query you have alopecia universalis since you were 9 years old. I m really empathetic to your problem.
Now the treatment part is bit difficult as the time elapses it becomes practically difficult to treat it. Neither it can be cured by blood transfusions and nor can be caused by the same.
The reason for above is the body of the suffering person secrets the antibodies form the bone marrow. SO we can not change the bone marrow. So also is true that blood transfusion can carry the antibodies but these are not effective in the receiving person.So it can not cause this type of illness in other person.
The very last thing to know is that hair per say are not very important for body and are of cosmetic importance only. SO there is no long term issue except for cosmetic appearance of a person.
