Whether this tablet suggested for the above is correct? If so please get me clear details about dosage and benefits of the same. The approximate age of this patient is 73.

Hello
Rantac is a medicine used for gastritis-it reduces the acidity of the stomach secretions. It does not have any proven effects on bowel movements.
Gastritis is common in elderly and we do use it-but for gastritis, not to aid bowel movement.
It seems to me that your basic concern is constipation/improper bowel habits. For a proper bowel movement, you need to drink plenty of water, and take in plenty of fibre rich food (fruits, vegetables, whole wheat bread, oats etc) and keep yourself active.
I would also advise you to consult a physician/surgeon with your symptoms (as altered bowel movements can be caused by few serious diseases especially in your age and it may not be physiological/normal) and get thoroughly examined so that the appropriate treatment can be prescribed.
Take care
