Hi kristinwinfrey, Thanks for visiting HCM. Bringing out a green phlegm is a sign of chest infection, which is commonin patients of heart disease involving lungs. It is better to go for a chest x-ray to have a preliminary idea of the extent of infection. A high total leukocyte count (TLC) with raised percentage of neutrophil suggests infection. Just go for a sputum examination for gram staining, ziehl neelsen staining, and culture and sensitivity. If stainings are positive or some growth is detected then targeted antibiotic therapy will help you. If they are negative then a course of antibiotics like amoxycillin and azithromycin will be beneficial. Cough expectorant syrups will ease clearing of the secretions....
