Have Chikungunya. Joint Pain Has Subsided But Swelling Remains. Can Be Solved Using?

hi doc, its 2 months now and i am still suffering from chikungunya .lthe joint pain that had subsided has come back to be more severe and specially my fingers and elbows,right knee and toes with slight swelling .I feel numb in my head and what shocks me is the hair thats coming out from the roots itself .in a week its half of what I had.am not getting sleep and cant do any work.life is hell.please help. -geetanjali

Dear mam,
The symptoms that you are complaining about refer to post viral arthritis. Usually after a viral fever there is an autoimmune reaction in the body which gives rise to certain particles in the body which can destroy the normal joint linings thus giving rise to pain. Although analgesics will help but the main stay of treatment remains steroids. I suggest you get your ESR, CRP tested to help in diagnosis and meet a general physician who will help you in starting steroids. Hope this has helped you.
