Have Compression Fracture Due To Fall. Should Boniva Be Taken Instead Of Prolia?

I was on fosomax for five years then my doctor stopped it as reports were saying not good to take foxomax In the past four years my spine has been very bad and had several compression fractures from small falls and my knees need replacement now My doctor wants me to take the Prolia injections but I think I was being kept well on the Fasomax as my problems started after stopping it Should I take Boniva instead of the injection Prolia? Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

There are only a few case reports in the literature suggesting spontaneous stress or fatigue fractures with long term therapy of Alendronate (Fosamax) but there is no evidence based data to support this.

Both Fosamax and Boniva (Ibandronic acid) belong to the same category of drugs -Bisphosphonates. So, I dont think there is much difference between these two drugs in terms of adverse effects.

Prolia (denosumab) is a new entry in the treatment of osteoporosis which also produces certain adverse reactions like Osteonecrosis of jaw. So I suggest you to consult your treating doctor and discuss the issues.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
