Have Diarrhea. Took Immodioum But Of No Use. What To Do For This Problem?

Since Saturday now I have had really bad diarrhea. My stools are extremely loose and I have a high number of movements a day, which are often unexpected and require an urgent need to seek a toilet. Since Sunday I have also had foul smelling wind which indicates to me I have some sort of GI infection. I am normally healthy and I initially suspected that as I eat a high amount of fruit (on Friday I had mango, pineapple etc) that this was the cause so I self medicated with immodioum. I have hardly eaten and feel tired, sick and generally unwell now. As it is the fourth day I'm not sure what to do

Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
With the available described details, there appears to high possibility of Acute viral gastroenteritis or small intestinal diarrhea.
Presence of foul smelling frequent diarrhea suggests the diagnosis.
You should consult with internal medicine specialist/ gastroenterologist and should go for thorough check up.
You should go for complete blood count, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, ultrasound imaging, and serum electrolytes, renal function test.
You should take complete antibiotic therapy, antispasmodics, probiotics, antipyretics, if needed.
Frequent watery diarrhea and vomiting may cause weakness due to loss potassium.
You should maintain your hydration status by taking potassium rich liquids.
Take soft diet along with yogurt and banana.
Avoid milk and all milk related products.
Take care,
Dr. Mayank Bhargava
