Have Fever On And Off. Suspecting Dengue. Advised To Have Cbc Platelet Count Test. Could It Be Dengue?
Hello good morning for the past 4 days my nephew experiences on and off fever and headache. We suspect that he might be inflicted with dengue. The pediatrician advised that we will have his cbc platelet count on saturday, August 17, 2013. As early as now and based on the symptoms, please advised us on how to treat my nephew's sickness.
Sir There are so many reasons for this type of fever. Every time it can not be dengue.
Initially your pediatrician is treating your child like a common viral fever patient as he should do. Later on according to the presentation of the symptoms he will rule out all the possible causes of fever by the fever panel investigation.
Platelets usually fall in so many viral fever and also in some bacterial infection like typhoid . So platelet fall is not the sole diagnostic tool for the dengue fever.
Point to be noted that platelet in dengue fever usually do not fall in the intial days. They start falling after some time as diseases progresses.
For the immediate diagnosis of the dengue one has to go some other test like detection of Antigen/ antibody by the ELISA test.
