Have Itchy Red Spots On Tongue And Strep Throat. What Can Relieve The Itching?

My son went to the Doctor today and has strep throat. While we were there I noticed red spots on his tongue and the Doctor said that they are caused from the virus from strep throat. My question is, he is really complaining of the red spots itching, is there something I could give to him to relieve the itching?

This is an unusual problem. We don't often hear a complaint of itchy spots on the tongue.
Benadryl (gen. diphenhydramine) is the staple for anything itchy. You could try a dose and see if it helps. Let's also make sure the mouth stays clean (ie: teeth brushing and mouthwash). In any event, the illness wil clear in a few days and he will return to normal.
