Have Large Fetal Stomach. All The Test Done. What Is The Possibilities That Everything Is Fine?

Hello, thank you for your attention and your time. I am 35 yrs old and just had a 20 week ultrasound. Everything is looking great except a large fetal stomach which also may/may not have two cavities instead of just one. The radiologist specifically said he looked in detail and found no other abnormalities. He re-checked me 30 minutes later and confirmed same measurements. The doctors seem concerned and are sending me to specialist. I understand that we can be looking at a genetic malformation in which case amnio can help detect the problem, and we could also be looking at a type of obstruction which would mean an operation at birth. Both heartbreaking. What is the likelihood that everything is just fine?

Hello Madam,
Thanks for your inquiry,
20 weeks may be too early to come to a conclusion.
Your baby's stomach is in a vertically growing stage. It has got a filling and emptying phase.
If there is a genuine obstruction the amount of amniotic fluid may be high and your abdominal size may be higher than the corresponding week size.
First let us come to a conclusion and then decide what is to be done at birth.
My advise to you is wait till 32 weeks. The scan taken at that time may give a correct picture by measuring SC/AC ratio.
A gastric outlet syndrome is a rare presentation
Best wishes for you
