Have Migraines. Taking Medication. Can That Cause Serotonin Syndrome?

May of the medications my physician has me taking state they can cause serotonin syndrome. Which really scares me? I am treated by my general physician and a psychotrist for migraines, and use the same pharmacy. I have always kept both md up to date on what I take. Why has no one warned me about this or even better, changed the meds so I am not using a serotonin reuptake inhibitor?

Hi,
Thanks for using healthcare magic.

I have gone through your history. You have not mentioned the name of the drugs you are taking.

Routinely for migraine prophylaxis , drugs like nortryptilline or propranolol or flunarizine or topiramate like drugs are used. None of them are serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

If migraine is associated with depression, drugs like serotonin reuptake inhibitor can be given.

You should consult your psychiatrist for the detailed information regarding drugs.

Even if with serotonin reuptake inhibitors, not all the patients will develop serotonin syndrome. So do not get scared about.

Thanks.
