Have Osteoarthritis, severely Disfigured Knuckle. Noticed Pain In Knuckle Of Finger. Prevent Disfiguration From Taking Over Joint?

Hi,
I have osteoarthritis. I have one severely disfigured knuckle, (rendering it useless), (top knuckle, below fingernail of ring finger on right hand). It's been that way for approx. a year and a half. Over time, without realizing it, I don't use this finger in everyday activities, this way avoiding extreme pain.
Today I noticed the osteoarthritic pain in the lower knuckle of my middle finger on my right hand, when there was even the smallest amount of pressure as I used my hands. This has alerted me to the fact that it may be on it's way to becoming severely disfigured. My question is - Is there anything I can start doing or taking to prevent disfiguration from taking over this joint?

Hi this needs further evaluation and management. Get done X ray of hand, serum uric acid levels, RA factor and complete haemogram and get evaluated from your Orthopedic doctor for the diagnosis. This may be due to gouty arthritis or due to OA or any other systemic cause. The management depends on the diagnosis.

For now you can take NSAID for pain.

Regards
