Have Pain In The Leg Just Below The Knee Which Is Black In Colour

I slipped on the ice about a week ago and just slid, didn't fall. My right outer leg now aches whenever I walk. The knee seems intact but on the right side of the knee it is a little black and blue but no pain there. The pain seems to be about four inches down from the knee on the side of the leg. Aleve seems to help with the pain and arnica rub.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

The bleeding that occurs result in hematoma collection leading to blue and black discolouraton. Over a period of time, as hematoma resolves it cause local skin symptoms around the hematoma.

Unless the large hematoma is compressing a nerve or you can do cold fomentation.

If required you may need to do blood investigation for prognosis and recovery.
Colour Doppler study will help to know any vascular abnormality.
Take precaution to avoid infection around hematoma.

Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

Wishing you good health.

Take care
