Have Pregnancy. Umbilical Artery Flow Has Come With Pi Of 1.44 Ri 0.65. Any Risk?
Hi, I am 36weeks and 1day pregnant and we have been for a scan today to check my placenta has it was low lying. They have also checked my umbilical artery flow which has come up with a pi of 1.44 ri 0.65. Can you please tell what risk this has to the baby as I feel that it wasn't really explainednto us that well and have since read that this can indicate IUGR. Our result is just under borderline normal is this something to worry about and what can I do to reduce it. I am 31, height 5ft2, and have a very good and healthy medical history. Thank you for your time.
Hello, The parameters mentioned indicate growth retardation when the values are raised above normal. Your resistance index value is within normal limits while the pulsatility index value is slightly higher. At present, you need not worry much as you are already reaching term, a fetal biophysical profile and a cardiotocogram can be done to look for any indication of fetal distress and if necessary, induction of labor can be done soon after reaching term. Please take adequate rest preferably in left lateral position to improve placental circulation. Wish you safe motherhood.
