Have Prinzmetal Angina. On Verapamil And Aldomet. Tried Ace Inhibitor Combo. Will I Be Okay?
Hi I am on verapamil 170mg and half tablet if aldomet for Prinzmetal angina. Only just started the verapamil. This medication worked Well on the symptoms chest pain and a pain. Now I can exercise more comfortably. I had tried an ace inhibitor combo with a channel blocker before And that med did not work for the symptoms, can you tell me why this combo Works better?
Hello,
The pain of angina is caused by a deficit in oxygen supply to the heart. Calcium channel blockers like Verapamil will dilate blood vessels, which increases the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart.
Methyldopa or aldomet is an alpha-adrenergic agonist used as an antihypertensive. Its use is now mostly deprecated following the introduction of alternative safer classes of agents. However, it continues to have a role in otherwise difficult to treat hypertension.
Since the earlier combination of medicines was not able to control your high blood pressure and verapamil is a very good vasodilator, that is the reason you are getting a good response with combination of verapamil and aldomet.
Thanks
