Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi Doctor, I am 29 years old. My right leg is affected with polio and is about two inches shorter than the left leg. When the polio struck me at 2 i could not even manage to sit, but gradually over the years after some operations and exercise i can walk with a limp and sometimes supporting my leg with hand. over the years there has been a gradual decrease in my my stamina and i get breathless just after climbing 3-4 steps or covering 50 metres on the ground. The leg it seems require increasing support. The foot drops, and sometimes bends inward when it becomes too stressful to walk. I have been cycling for 4-5 years to get myself around which i find more convenient even for the shortest distance. If it adversely affecting my leg strength? Also i get breathless and start panting easily while walking, do i need to be worried? I am 5feet 1inch tall and weigh 62kgs.

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement, Dr. Mukesh Chugh's Response
Hi Thanks for writing your query I have gone through your query and my advice is getting yourself examined by physician for heart and lung examination to know the cause of breathlessness, if not done earlier. You may need calliper to support the weak leg along with attachment for foot drop.I feel your weight is a bit higher considering your height ,aim for around 55 kg bodyweight. Take care Regards Dr.chugh Orthopaedic surgeon http://bit.ly/drmchugh
