Have Recurring Yeast Infection On Penis. Using Lotrimin. Have Dark Patches. Herpes Test Negative. What To Do?
My husband has been diagnosed with a yeast infection on his penis . It went away and he got another one a month or six weeks later. He s treating it with lotrimin as the doctor told him to, but he has dark patches on part of the glans of his penis now and it s still infected. The worst of the YI is behind the glans though (he has blisters etc). Tested negative for herpes and has only been with me for five years. What can we do? He s increased acidophilus in his diet and I have no signs of yeast. Obviously we are abstaining from sex.
ETA, he does not have diabetes. They put him on diflucan every three days for 9 days. The swelling has gone down but it is still really raw. I've had a lot of YI in my life and never have they lasted more than a week. He's had this two weeks now. :(
Hi, Along with local application of anti-fungal lotion or cream he should go for oral anti-fungal tablet like Flucanozole 150 mg once in a week for 4 weeks. Keep local part clean, dry and airy. If require you too go for same oral treatment. Ok and take care.
You had not mentioned the age of your husband and whether he has Diabetes Mallitus wich are having some freelance over yeast infection..
The topical application alone may not be sufficient in many occasions and it has to be substituted with Oral Anti-fungal preparations like Tablet Flucanazole weekly once for 3-4 weeks to get a complete cure. Factors like prolonged antibiotics, immunosuppressive drugs, Diabetes can precipitate yeast infection. It has to be attended properly to achieve a complete cure. Even though if you don't have any symptoms it is better you also have to be treated to avoid a relapse or reinfection by your physician.. Wish him a speedy recovery. Dr S.Murugan
