Have Shortness Of Breath On Exertion, Feel Lightheadedness, Constipation. Right Medication?

I am having shortness of breath after the least amount of exertion. It has been happening for about 3 weeks. I noticed it when I recently went to stay with my daughter for two weeks and her place has steep stairs that I was not accustomed to but it has continued at home. When this happens, I also feel lightheadedness and overall weakness. I've always suffered with constipation but it has gotten worse during this same time. My stools are always hard and round. With this exertion, I also experience my heart races for a while.

Hi there,

Thanks for your query.

You have not mentioned your age and gender; whether you get heaviness of left side of chest on exertion; smoker/non-smoker.

However, from the brief information provided by you, the possibilities are:-

* Early/undiagnosed coronary artery disease.

* Chronic obstructive airway disease (COAD).

The recommended course of action is :-

# Get an ECG, 2-D Echo and Stress Test (TMT) done at the earliest. If the tests are found positive, an angiography may be required.

# Chest X-ray and Lung Function Test to assess functional status of lungs.

# Other blood investigations, including Blood sugar, Lipid Profile.

Consult your doctor/cardiologist and apprise him of my opinion. I am certain that he agree with me; order required tests, and- based on the reports- will prescribe suitable treatment as advised.

If you find my response helpful and informative, do not forget an “excellent” (5-star rating) to my answer, to ENCOURAGE all doctors- engaged in social service- to render sound advice to the FREE queries.

Fond regards and have a nice day
