Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Have Swelling And Lump On Cheek Bone Due To Fall. Took X-ray. Should I Take Ibuprofen?
I tripped and fell and hit my face on the pavement almost 2 weeks ago. Had x-rays taken at emergency which proved that there were no bones broken. Bruising is going away but I still have a lump on my cheekbone (it has gone down somewhat). I haven't been doing anything since I stopped using the ice packs after the first 3 days. Is there something else I can be doing to help the swelling go down faster? I haven't been taking any more ibuprofen the last 2 days. Should I be still taking it? Thank you....

Hello, Thanks for your query.
The lump on cheek is likely to be due to a hematoma formation in the area. Since the bony injuries have been ruled out, a soft tissue injury is likely. You need to avoid massaging the area and take a mild pain killer for relief. Do a cold compress on the area of injury. The pain and swelling might take over a week to subside. In case there is an acute pain and a sudden increase in swelling then consult your physician for a direct examination to rule out any infection in the area.
I do hope that you have found something helpful and I will be glad to answer any further query. Take care
