Having High BP. On Medication. Heavy Alcohol Drinker. Now Feeling Winded. Cannot Sleep On The Bed. Suggestions?
My husband turned 62 today. He mild high blood pressure and takes medication for it. He has been an alcoholic and drank regularly and sometimes very heavily for over 20 years. Two days ago he drank about 22 oz. of Jameson whiskey in about a 16 hour period. He stopped drinking yesterday morning around 9 a.m. Since then, he gets very winded if he gets up off the couch just to go to the bathroom. He can't lay down on the bed to sleep or he gets very winded then, too. Right now he's sitting up on the couch watching TV. He is hoping that in time the symptom will leave him and thinks it is a symptom of his hangover. Is this something that will clear or should he see his doctor?
Hello, Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum. These symptoms are not of hangover , rather I should say due to over dose of alcohol in short time. These symptoms will disappear within next 6 hours. Hangover's symptoms usually appears after 12 hours of last drink of alcohol. As you know your husband is a chronic alcoholic , so need not necessary to consult a doctor. Hope I have answered your query. If further any question I will help. Good wishes. Dr. HET
