Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have what feels like a baby kicking in my lower stomach. My cycle is due to come on next week. Not sure why but the kicking when on all day and night. Yes I had my cycle last month, what could be causing the kicking feeling? I have also gained 20 lbs since my mom died in June of this year.
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood the concerns. Although rare the feeling of kicking in abdomen in spite of nt being pregnant and getting weight gain of 20 lbs indicate the following. This may be due to depression or such a mental condition that can cause weight gain as well as Peudocyesis meaning feeling of pregnancy in spite of not being actually pregnant. I would advise you the following in such a situation: Get a Psychologist's or Psychiatrist opinion and consult your Gynecologist for proper evaluation, getting hormone studies done and proper counselling will be helpful. But it is equally important to rule out intestinal issues like obstruction by X-ray of the abdomen in standing position, CT scan and other tests as may be needed to rule out any such problem and if found to be treated accordingly.
