Yes, I have dry skin, severe dry skin. I haven't noticed any other issues with my breast other than my nipples have cracked on both breast.. I just want a suggestion on a cream that isn't harsh to attempt healing of the cracks. Lanolin didn't work, though, I've never been pregnant.
In dry climates or areas with very hard water, especially during the winter, it is not unusual for women who have dry skin to have extremely dry or cracked nipples.
In order to help to prevent this, I generally advise women to apply Vaseline or other petroleum jelly to their nipples at least 2 to 3 times daily, especially after showering or bathing. Vaseline is a petroleum product that will "waterproof" the skin and will keep moisture trapped inside so it is not able to be evaporated or washed away as easily. It has no fragrance, is non-toxic, and also has many other household uses. My patients have responded positively to this treatment.
Also, try not to wash your breasts with harsh soap, instead use a gentle cleanser that is designed for your face. In addition, wearing bras that have a soft lining and do not have a seam across your nipple can reduce chafing.
If you continue to apply the Vaseline liberally, the cracked nipples should continue to improve over time and the raw skin underneath should heal within a few weeks.
I hope I was able to adequately answer your question at this time, and that my advice was helpful.
Best wishes,
Dr. Brown
