Having Pain In My Thumb, Did I Sprain It?

I hit the base of my palm under my thumb on one of those bulky thermostat boxes and now that part is swollen and I can't touch my thumb to my pinky and can't bend my thumb backwards. I can bend my wrists both ways. I have a tingly pins and needle sensation going from my thumb to my wrist where you take your pulse. did I sprain it, do I have severe brusing or did I just dislocate it?

Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
I would recommend you to get X ray of your thumb as some time these trival looking injury can cause severe damage and even fracture. If no fracture than compression bandage will be sufficient for him. If there is fracture than you will need plaster. Also meanwhile apply ice over your thumb.
