Having Urinary Retention Problem. Ultrasound Done. Suggested For MRI. What Are The Possible Treatment?
Hello Doctor, I am a 23 year old male and I am facing urinary retention problem. I had an ultrasound done, which revealed excessive PVR and mild hypertrophy of the prostrate grade 1. the Uroflowmetry tests done revealed a flow of below 10. I have been recommended an MRI scan . Can you please guide me as to whats the prognosis of this ailment and what are the possible treatments?
hi. Urinary retention is uncommon in young age. You have not mentioned if the retention is painful or painless. I assume it is painless. You have also mentioned that your flow is poor. Act of micturition involves 2 components. One is bladder contraction and other is relaxation of bladder outlet. Any abnormality in either of them causes retention. In your case your doctor is suspecting decreased bladder contracility. It could be because of abnormality in nerve supply to the bladder which comes from spinal cord. Thats why they have advised MRI of spine. You also need x-ray called voiding cystourethrogram and a test called urodynamic study which tests the storing and contracting capacity of bladder. Prognosis depends on the findings of investigations. Visit a urologist.
