Headache, Weakness And Poor Vision In One Eye With Fluid Drips From Nose After Stopping Medication. Have 19mm Prolactinoma. Sign Of Growing Tumor?

Hello, I have a 19mm prolactinoma and was taking cabergoline to shrink it. I decided ,against doctors orders, to stop taking the meds about 3 months ago. Since then I have noticed more headaches, weakness in one eye, poor vision in one eye and sometimes fluid drips from my nose. Could this be a sign that the tumor is growing?

hello,I have got your question.look you have not done the right thing.the symptoms you are talking about may be due to the enlargement of the prolactinoma.it can press on the optic nerve and can cause visual problem.can also cause csf rhinorrhea with headache etc.so a radiological image is necessary to identify the actual size of the tumour now.so 1st of all you have to consult with your doctor and have to take her/his decision.thank you.

Ophthalmologist Dr. Bilal Hassan's  Response
Hi Friend I am Dr Bilal and I am an Ophthalmologist
Welcome to Health Care Magic and thanks for writing to us .
I would like to answer your question and your satisfaction is my goal .

From the history given by you , its obvious that the symptoms you are experiencing are due to stopping of cabergoline by you and attributable to tumor growth . You should not have stopped it by yourself . Taking the medication as prescribed by your physician is always good for your own well being . Cabergoline is very important as it helps shrink the prolactinomas . I would suggest you to visit the physician who prescribed you with cabergoline and discuss the matter with him in detail as he may suggest you to start taking the medicine again . Dont worry and stay motivated .

Wish you good luck and a very speedy recovery .
Best regards .
