Heart Patient. Heart Catheterization Shows Open Arteries. What Is The Possible Life Expectancy?
My mother is 76 and has been a heart patient for some time. Her most recent heart cath shows only 2 arteries open, the 2 that have stents. Her heart surgeon does not recommend surgery at this time. She is generally healthy, takes her blood pressure and cholesterol medicine, and rests when she tires. I know that there is no perfect way to know, but I would like to know approx. how much longer she will be with us.
Hi
I think we can be quite positive about your mother's life expectancy. If 2 of the three main coronary arteries are open with successful stents, and she is well without severe angina or heart failure, her life expectancy is not much different from normal. You dont say anything about her heart function: this would have been measured by echocardiogram, but as long as this is good and she does not have other health problems her life expectancy is only slightly less than the normal of 11 years for this age, say about 10 years.
Take care.
