Hello!
Thank you for the query.
It is very common that pains in upper abdomen are misdiagnosed. The easiest way is to perform
ultrasound, find some
gall stones and remove the
gallbladder. And it turns out that some of such patients do not suffer from gallstones (a lot of people do have it and do not suffer from it). It is possible that your gall stones were not the reason of your pains.
Blood in stool (especially when dark), and symptoms like pain, nausea, vomiting can be all caused by
peptic ulcer which is bleeding. Especially that your symptoms are associated with meals.
Second possibility of your symptoms are bile ducts stones that has been left during the surgery or has been created in bile ducts. Such stones can lead to
acute pancreatitis and many life threatening complications.
What you should have done is: abdominal ultrasound (it should tell if bile ducts are widen and if there are any stones inside), full blood work with liver enzymes (with GGTP and ALP levels),
bilirubin, amylases in blood and urine. This tests will tell if there is any problem with bile ducts and with pancreas. Next step should be upper GI endoscopy and if any bile ducts problem has been revealed, ERCP should be performed during this endoscopy. It will treat bile duct problem.
Hope this will help.
Regards.
