Held Penis To Stop Urination. Urinated Blood Later. Reason?

I held my urine from existing my penis with my hand because I was not close to a bath room in the house. On my way to the bath room I felt something pop inside my penis shaft and I began to urinate blood. What caused this problem of bleeding from my urinary tract? Is this serious and do I need to see a doctor immediately?

General & Family Physician Dr. Shoaib Khan's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM.

Thank you for your query.

Yes, this could be something serious, from your description, this could have resulted in some complication, but we cannot be sure of it.

If you did not experience any symptoms prior to this event, no blood in urine, etc; then this event could have resulted in some complications.

Although most cases seem to resolve themselves, if you continue to see blood in your urine, I would advise you to visit your doctor (urologist) for a physical examination coupled with a ultrasound or if serious may be even a urethroscopy.

I hope I have succeeded in providing the information you were looking for. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications at: http://doctor.healthcaremagic.com/doctors/dr-shoaib-khan/64581 . I would gladly help you.

Best wishes.

Hi, many thanks for the query!
Blood in urine is due to several causes, specifically
in your case it seems to be due to stone in ?urethra,
Ca-oxalate stone has spikes on its surface that causes
mechanical trauma to mucosa in urinary tract causing bleeding.
Also, it can be due to UTI, bladder abnormalities etc.
You need to do- USG KUB, RFT, Urine (R/M), CBC, X-ray KUB.
You haven't mentioned whether this happened for the first time or
how many times till now, also, pain is there or not?
Follow up with your Urologist with the reports for appropriate management.
Wish you a good health.
Take care.
Regards.
